The floors are getting shined and pencils are getting sharpened. Soon the final lazy days of summer will give way to the first fresh days of a new school year. New and familiar faces will soon walk into our school with bright smiles and maybe some nervous tummies, but together we will bring our best selves to a new school year to learn and grow together in God’s love. For 62 years, tentative parents have brought their children to their first day of school at St. Peter School and the best students in the world have walked in our doors. For 62 years, the best and most dedicated teachers have prepared their rooms and along with a loving staff greeted their students with hope and anticipation. And for 62 years God has guided the hearts of the St. Peter School family to learn, grow, serve, and pray as we nurture the saints of tomorrow in our classrooms.
This year’s theme is “Come to the Table.” It is the invitation to all of us to come to the table of learning, community, and work that will make our school year a success. It is the invitation to participate in the source and summit of our faith – the Eucharist – the sacrifice of God’s own Son for each and every one of us, which we do at every Mass. It is the gentle and loving hands of a shepherd that invites us – the sheep close to the fold and those who have wandered away – to return to his embrace time and time again. And how blessed we are to be at the table together this year.
