It is with deep gratitude that we announce the retirement of our fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Sheila Ulerich. Mrs. Ulerich has devoted her entire teaching career of 34 years to the students and families of St. Peter School. Mrs. Ulerich is also an alumnus of the school where she returned as a teacher after receiving her teaching certificate and later earning her Master’s Degree. She taught third grade for many years and then moved to fifth grade where she has taught till the present day. She has taught all subjects throughout her career but over the past 20 years, she became the school’s leading Language Arts teacher sharing her deep passion and love for literature and writing. Anyone lucky enough to sit as a student in her room didn’t just read books – they came alive as themes and life lessons and often spiritual connections were illuminated as students gathered on the rug to hear the stories. Thanks to Mrs. Ulerich, a love for reading was ignited in so many students as they laughed and more often cried when they came to know and love characters through her eyes. Along with a love for literature, Mrs. Ulerich shares an equal passion for history and art. But the connecting thread in every moment of her teaching through the years has been her deep faith and love of family. She taught that God’s magnificence and grace can be found in the characters of a book, the historical events that have shaped our world, and in the splendor of nature and art if we take time to look for Him there. When not in school Mrs. Ulerich loves to be outside, reading, being at the beach or Laurel Hill State Park, and she is an avid fan of critically acclaimed movies and documentaries. She is the best resource for a good book, movie, or tv show! She and her husband Dan, our #1 favorite bus driver, are the proud parents of Michael, and his wife Rebecca and extremely proud grandparents to Thurman and Maeve. We have no doubt that they will enjoy having Grandma around much more in the months to come.
May God bless Mrs. Ulerich with good health and many sunny days with good books and her grandchildren. It is simple and it is true. Thank you.
